The MOD, Capgemini and Microsoft brought together a number of other partners and suppliers to deliver an operational IASS solution.
Using the latest off the shelf Microsoft technologies and the trusted and proven DECS architecture, IASS allows secure access to HR systems from any Internet-connected PC. User authentication is achieved via banking style “Chip & PIN” smartcards and the DWP Government Gateway.
Secure routes are established to the relevant HR systems which crucially do not require any modification to interface with IASS. Once logged in via IASS, the user can carry out many of the HR tasks they would previously only have been able to have performed from a workstation in an MOD office.
Users should be aware that the owners of the HR systems can, and do, restrict the information that is viewable over the Internet for security and privacy reasons. This “redaction” is a key design feature which seeks to maximise user benefit whilst minimising the security risk.
