Defence Fuels Group (DFG) is responsible for the efficient and effective provision of aviation, marine and ground fuels, lubricants and industrial gases to our Armed Forces. It manages the physical supply chain including policy, procedures and regulations and, as the expert technical focus and the MOD licensing authority for fuel installations, sets and monitors the specifications of fuel, lubricants and gases and provides the discipline lead for fuel safety.
The Bulk Fuels Inventory Solution (BFIS) went live in 2003 and is providing DFG with a fully integrated system for managing all aspects of the procurement and supply of bulk fuels. It enables bulk fuels to be managed by a single system service rather than the three separate processes formerly used by the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
BFIS is provided from a COTS package – SAP ECC6, with its associated Oil and Gas industry module, the whole of which is hosted on the DECS infrastructure as a Value Added Service (VAS). JSP 886 (The Defence Logistics Support Chain Manual Volume 2 Part 5 identifies BFIS as the bulk fuels management system to be used for all those connected to it.
In addition to the BFIS prime role of meeting the requirements of Britain's armed forces, the service also supports the Defence Fuels Group's links to NATO, the US Department of Defence and Britain's other allies.
